To celebrate Autism Acceptance Month, our Associate Director Chris Barnes has spoken to the IWFM about his experiences and how through years of learning and research, using Christine Miserandino’s 'spoon theory' helps explain how he divides his energy up.
This brilliant read explains how the spoon theory is often used to make sense of what it feels like to have a limited amount of energy. It focuses on having to make choices to avoid, or at least minimise, burnout and fatigue. She developed this metaphor to explain her chronic autoimmune disease, but it was adopted by the autistic community to explain the similar energy limitations that autistic people face.
