From the outset Pareto FM also lead with the philosophy of running a paperless operation which has contributed towards our Environmental accreditation. This accreditation will enable us to better serve our partnerships and ensures great levels of quality and environmental considerations are delivered across our portfolios.”

Benefits of ISO 9001

ISO 9001 Certification will provide maximum benefit to your organisation if it approaches ISO 9001 implementation in a practical way. This will ensure that the Quality Management Systems that are adopted, work to improve the business and are not just a set of procedures that your employees will find hard to manage.

By adopting an approach that starts out to implement more efficient working practices and focuses on the business objectives of the organisation, you will achieve a system that will help and support your staff, and improve your levels of customer satisfaction.

Whether you use an external assessor or allocate an internal resource to carry out the initial assessments, you will need to ensure that they have buy-in from senior management, so that all areas of the organisation are aware of the importance of the ISO 9001 Certification process.

ISO 9001 Certification is not just suitable for large organisations but also small businesses that will benefit from adopting efficient Quality Management Systems that will save time and cost, improve efficiency and ultimately improve customer relationships.

What is ISO 14001?

ISO 14001 was developed to provide a management system to help organisations reduce their environmental impact. The standard provides the framework for organisations to demonstrate their commitment to the environmental by:

  • Reducing harmful effects on the environment

  • Providing evidence of continual improvement of Environmental Management

The standard is generic and does not apply to any particular industry or business sector. It provides a strategic framework that can be used to meet internal and external objectives for Environmental Management.

Environmental Management System

By achieving ISO14001 certification you will be able to clearly demonstrate your commitment to reducing waste and recycling materials where appropriate. The benefits to your organisation will not just be in cost savings, they may also prove beneficial when tendering for new business. Who is it for?

Because of its generic nature and universal acceptance, the ISO 14001 standard has the potential to affect the environmental management practices of virtually every manufacturing company in the world. It can also be used by charities, voluntary organisations and trade associations. Any organisation whose products, services or day-to-day activities have an impact on the environment needs to be aware of ISO 14001.

Background to ISO 14001

Like ISO 900, ISO 14001 is a product of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). ISO 14001 is the world's first generic, internationally recognised standard for environmental management. Of the group of ISO 14000 standards, ISO 14001 is the actual standard to which companies get registered. Experts are predicting that the impacts of this dynamic standard will transcend the vast popularity of the world-renowned ISO 9001 quality standard. ISO 14001 measures the conformance of an organisation's Energy Management System (EMS) to the specified requirements. Click here to read more about what to do next.

What is ISO 18001?

The OHSAS 18001 standard (may also be mistakenly referred to as ISO 18001) is internationally accepted as a method of assessing and auditing occupational health and safety management systems. Developed by leading trade and international standards bodies, it provides a framework for organisations to instigate proper and effective management of health & safety in the workplace.

By having a clearly defined management system in place to identify and control health and safety risks, organisations are able to minimise risks to their workforce and visitors or external contractors on their premises. The standard will enable organisations to put in place processes for continually reviewing and improving occupational health and safety.

Key areas that will be assessed by OHSAS certification

  • Management systems in place

  • Planning and risk assessment

  • Staff training and awareness

  • Communication of safety management systems

  • Response to emergency situations

  • Monitoring and continual improvement

Health and safety management System

Achieving a structured health and safety management system throughout the organisation will demonstrate your commitment to the welfare of your staff and external parties.

It will provide a framework to implement the OHSAS 18001 requirements and a process for continual improvement.

The development of a robust and manageable system will provide benefits to the organisation and its workforce. Cost savings and a reduction in accidents are just two of the many benefits. Click here to read about some of the other benefits of achieving certification.

Who is it for?

OHSAS 18001 is suitable for all types of organisation wanting to become more efficient in managing and reducing accidents in the workplace.

By setting up systems that are assessed by a third party certification body, organisations will prove to their staff, suppliers and customers that they take health and safety seriously.

OHSAS 18001 accreditation provides a framework to help organisations meet their legal obligations to Health and Safety in the workplace.

The audit can be undertaken by a number of Certification bodies, however it is important to note that not all auditing organisations are UKAS accredited. If you do not use a UKAS accredited auditor your certification could end up being worthless.
