Pareto FM Highly Commended at BIFM Awards 2014

Andrew Hulbert, managing director of Pareto FM, was highly commended in the Rising Talent in Facilities Management category at this year’s prestigious BIFM Awards.

The announcement was made last night (13 October) at a glittering awards ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel in front of more than 1,200 of the industry’s leading figures. Hulbert was up against some stiff competition including Owen Gower from Vinci Facilities, Mark Leighton at Cofely UK, and Stacey Smith from Emirates Air Line. Leighton won the category.

Hulbert has had a meteoric FM career. He joined Rollright FM as an intern in his penultimate year of university, where, after just eight weeks, he completed a competitor analysis focused on the sustainability agenda and with recommendations for gaining ISO 14001 (which the organisation achieved 18 months later). Rejoining the firm on a graduate trainee scheme after he graduated, Hulbert was quickly promoted from graduate to account manager to associate director of Bilfinger HSG Facility Management (which acquired Rollright in 2012) within four years. Reporting directly to the board with responsibility for service delivery across the entire business, culminating is around 200 staff and £10million of contract based which required a high level FM intellect for service delivery.

In 2012, Hulbert gained an MSc in facility and environment management from University College London which has been fundamental to his understanding of FM, widening his knowledge of the industry and allowing him to engage at a senior level with clients. At the same time, he has been actively involved as a member in a number of key industry groups. Since June 2011, he has been a member of the BIFM’s Rising FM committee whom were recognised for two consecutive years for their time and dedication through the BIFM Volunteer Recognition Awards. In 2010, he joined the Building Futures Group Young Managers’ Forum (then the Facilities Management Association’s Young Managers’ Forum) where he became Chairman in June 2014.

Hulbert has acted as the ‘face’ of the industry as a Judge for the FMA Young Manager of the Year award, which he also won in 2010. He was among the 40 under 40 Ones to Watch in FM in FMX magazine in 2011 and 2012, and appeared in FM World magazine’s 30 Rising Stars of FM in 2012.

In August 2014, Hulbert set up his own business Pareto FM, a service-led FM firm that applies intuition and expertise to service delivery, embracing technology and innovation at every opportunity, to deliver exceptional service. The organisation, which is named after the Pareto Principle, which states that, for many events, roughly 80 per cent of the effects come from 20 per cent of the causes, has a genuine focus on staff development – one of Hulbert’s own passions.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have received highly commended status for this award,” said Hulbert. “Developing young people in FM is one of my passions. I was fortunate enough to work for a company which not only operated one of the industry’s few graduate schemes, but was also keen to develop me and support me in my career. Through Pareto FM I want to continue to support others in that aim, and attract the brightest young minds to our sector.”
